It is our day to take delivery of our second Tesla Model 3! It is many months in the waiting, but at this time unless a call is received that there is an issue, we will be a 2 Tesla Household.
This is many months in the waiting after having to reject 2 previous deliveries, one for quality, the other had the wrong color interior. Read the details about this Tesla Model 3 order.
Since writing last, Tesla has resolved our pricing concern and we have the 1st quarter price reduction applied to this Model 3. This is a Black Model 3, Long Range, All Wheel Drive, 18 inch Aero Wheels, and White Interior. It has taken many phone calls and emails to get the pricing resolved. Even up to the last 2 days they insisted the price was correct. Of all things to open their eyes that it was wrong, I suggested they look at our Blue Tesla’s documentation to see the price we paid. That is all it took, not sure whey nobody at Tesla thought of this, but sometimes you have to lead the horse to the water. 🙂
I’m up early, pickup is scheduled for late this afternoon! Pictures and a review of our pickup experience for our 2nd Model 3 will be coming in the next day or two.

April is done and I’m looking at how much electric our Tesla Model 3 uses. I know others are thinking how much electricity does a Tesla Model 3 use? Since this is our first full month, I’m anxious to dig into the data.
Our electric bill for April is $19.85, I have to add we have the benefit of rooftop solar installed in 2012. We drove our Blue Tesla Model 3 1157 miles in April. We charged 260 kWh’s at home and 107 kWh’s at Tesla Superchargers. The Supercharger visits were free due to using a Tesla Referral code for our purchase. If we look at it as all charged from home and no solar, we used 367 kWh’s for 1157 miles, or $29.36 cents at our current electric rate.
If you look at our electric use at home and charging our Tesla for April, we used less than 100 kWh’s net as seen in the graphic below.
I’m very happy with this outcome, extremely affordable when looking at cost/mile of driving our Tesla. If we remove the Tesla charging from our April usage and calculate our electric bill, our April electric bill would be ~$4.50.
Now that we know much electricity our Tesla Model 3 uses, we can plan for our future electric needs.
Our previous car would have been able to be driven less than 300 miles on the total cost of electric we used to charge our Tesla Model 3 in April. What an improvement!

We received our 3rd VIN for our Black Model 3 order today!
There’s a long story behind this car and sounds like the saga will continue as we are now in a stand off with Tesla about the price.
The original car assigned to us was rejected for quality issues on the drivers side of the car. The car showed very large gaps between the front and back door as well as poor alignment at the fender/door/A-pillar and back door to Quarter Panel. The front door edge was misaligned with the rear door with the bottom of the front door nearly 1/2 inch further out than the back door. Other issues were present with this car, but they were at a level that I would have accepted the car after repair.
Another VIN was assigned, when we went to pick this car up, it had Black Interior we ordered White Interior, it was rejected. When this car was assigned to our Tesla account it changed our interior color order. Tesla made the correction back to white interior and we lost the $1000 price decrease that Tesla offered in the 1st Quarter. We were assured this pricing error would be fixed prior to our next VIN assignment.
Today our account still shows this pricing error. Our Sales Advisor called and stated the first request to fix this pricing error was denied. His claim is the Sales Manager has other avenues, but has not perused them yet. I feel this should be his highest priority after stating that the price change would be fixed as we had no part in the chain of events which led to us rejecting 2 Tesla Model 3’s.
I am close to the edge of canceling this order if this isn’t resolved. This is a case of customer service and quality falling well below the final product we all know as Tesla.
