Tesla has released the latest vehicle safety report for Quarter 1 of 2021. In the 1st Quarter they revealed an accident rate of one accident every 4.19 million miles traveled with Auto Pilot engaged. This dropped to an accident rate of 2.05 million miles with Auto Pilot off with all other safety features enabled. If a driver had other safety features off and wasn’t using Auto Pilot the average was one accident every 978 thousand miles. This compares to the US average of an accident every 484 thousand miles per the NHTSA.
Elon Tweeted that Tesla’s are approaching 10 times less likely to be in crash than an average vehicle with Autopilot engaged.
Not only good new for Tesla, but a great indicator of where safety is going for us on the road.
